Domestic abuse can be described as the use of power and control over another person – perhaps using violence, emotional abuse and, or withholding money. These are some examples of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can affect anyone of any age including children and young people as well as adults.

BAWSO (Black Association of Women Step Out) – 01633 213213
Similar to Women’s Aid but they provide support to BME women young and old. The number is for office hours. For 24 hour call 08007318147
The Caerphilly Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator or Safer Caerphilly Multi Agency Centre – 01443 819317
You can call the Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator, or you can speak to a member of Safer Caerphilly MAC based in Ystrad Mynach if you need additional advice or support or if you have any problems getting the advice you need.
Caerphilly Public Protection Unit (Gwent Police) – 01443 875265.
This unit has dedicated officers to offer advice and support.
Caerphilly Youth Service
A service for any young person in need of advice and support relating to domestic abuse or family problems. Young people may speak to a youth worker, from any youth project/centre or school.
The Basement (youth information network) visits schools and communities within the county borough, and can offer information on many topics. For timetable information please contact 01495 233007. Blackwood Basement is available 4 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday 2.30pm - 9.00pm, Friday 11.00am-7.00pm, Saturday 11.00am-3.00pm).
The Hub (mobile youth provision and Communities First youth outreach team) also visits schools and communities within the borough. To contact the team or to find out where they are located please call 01443 863194 or 01443 863189.
Gwent Bobby Van Scheme – 01633 245202
They will come out to homes of those affected by domestic abuse and fix the locks/windows to make the home safer. The Safer Caerphilly Multi Agency Centre can refer you for this service (as list above).
Rhymney Valley Women’s Aid – 02920 860255
A support and refuge service offered to women young and old. They also operate and outreach service for those who need help but do not want to go in a refuge. You can talk to your local service during office hours. Please note after office hours your call will be picked up outside the local area by whoever is on call.
POVA (Protection of Vulnerable adults) – 0808 1002500
You can ring this number if you have concern for an adult who is vulnerable or elderly. They can provide advice and possibly even some practical help
Social Services – 0808 1001727
This is the free phone public number you can use to speak to social services if you have concerns for any children who maybe involved in domestic abuse situations.

This service is only open locally in the daytime, and will provide you with advice and support.
The Wales Domestic Abuse Helpline – 08080 80 10 800
Although not local this is an important help line, as they will take calls from anyone (male or female) and the calls do not show on the phone bill. Open every day 8am – 2pm, and 8pm –2am. |
