Domestic Abuse can be:
- Physical – hitting, slapping, punching or kicking.
- Emotional and Physiological – Being called nasty names, being shouted at, telling you you’re stupid, ugly or naughty. Locking you in your bedroom, making promises and breaking them on purpose. Not letting you have drink or food or go to the toilet when you need to. Some one saying they will hurt you.
- Making threats, isolating – no friends or family members come to the house.
- Financial – Offering you money to do things that you know are wrong, taking money from you, controlling everything money is spent on
- Sexual – Touching you where you don’t want to be touched, forces you to take part in sexual activites
Abuse could be from a parent, another child, or a family member or even your boyfriend or girlfriend.
Domestic abuse can happen to families from anywhere and from all walks of life.
Don’t feel ashamed if abuse is happening at home.
- It is NOT your fault,
- it is NOT the fault of the victim.
Any type of abuse is about having power and control over another person |
