Pembrokeshire Domestic Abuse Forum

bubbleimageTorfaen Domestic Abuse Forum is a multi agency partnership set up to address the needs of victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Domestic abuse can happen in any kind of family and in any kind of home. Children are usually aware of what’s going on: even if they don’t see what’s happening, they may hear it. Children can also get hurt. If there is financial abuse there may often not be enough money to meet the family’s needs.

People who experience domestic abuse often feel isolated, confused, degraded, anxious, depressed. And because many victims (and their children) can’t explain their partner’s (or their parent’s) behaviour, they often assume they are to blame.

As a result of the abuse a victim’s self esteem and self confidence may be low and they may feel dependent on the abuser. They may also be fearful of the abuser and children are often asked or told to keep the abuse a secret. Consequently, victims may find it difficult to leave an abusive relationship.

bubbleimageAlso, over one third of teenagers in relationships have experienced some form of abuse. If you feel someone is abusing you, take it seriously.

If you are worried about what is happening to you or to someone in your family, it is important that you share your worries. If you want to talk to a helpline that will listen and understand then please ring the Wales Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 80 10 800.
